It was early evening on a warm sunny day, as I finished cleaning my driveway; I was approximately a meter from my front door. I looked up as movement caught my eye. Behind the bezelled glass, a large white male hand at the end of a dark sleeve reached for the handle and slowly closed the door . I went in to see who it was, there was nobody there. To be in this position, they would have had their back to the wall, which would be difficult due to placement of the coat rack. The arm and hand, were as clear as the picture. Why the need for such stringent conditions in the seance room, when they can materialise in broad daylight?
For years I've been waking up in the early hours, hearing the door open and close; occasionally in the day too. I still have no idea who it is. Maybe it's a coincidence but a few hours before this happened, a friend and I were seating in the kitchen, discussing the recent decrease in observed phenomena.
Seeking answers, I took myself to the seance room that evening.
There is a toll for carrying out this research that I rarely address. Not only does it create division and distance you from the living, there are those who actively do their best to be a hinderance from the other side. Whilst recording for EVP never fails to be incredibly interesting, sometimes, it stops being fun and becomes incredibly frustrating.
Over the years, the question of whom it is I record has become less important to me, than the mechanics of how I record their voices, and why I am allowed. If speakers are able and willing to share their thoughts and observations, why do they not provide clear instruction on communication? I know it can be done.
Am I being toyed with?
